I’m pretty sure CAPTCHA is messing with me

I’m pretty sure CAPTCHA is messing with me

I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that whenever I’m presented a CAPTCHA box (one of those security fields that has you type the words that you see on your screen, supposedly to make sure you’re not some kind of robot) the words in the box have been a little suspicious. As if the program was trying to tell me something.

I’d get presented with a combination of words like “lazy” and “worker” or “heavy” and “foundation“. Never anything overt, but always a combination that could have another meaning implied if you read into it. And always something slightly derogatory.

Of course I would dismiss it every time because acknowledging it as more than just coincidence would give credence to the fact that a mischievous and malicious computer program was out to get me. I have a hard enough time maintaining outward appearances of...

Happy Second of July!!!

Happy Second of July!!!

In my opinion, July 2nd gets the shaft. Always being overshadowed by his baby brother July 4th.

Sure, the 4th of July is a very important day in this history of our nation.

I’d argue that the 2nd of July marks far greater moments in America’s history than the anniversary of the deaths of America’s 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Presidents.

Open letter to the readers of Stuff Christians Like

Dear Fellow SCL Reader:

I’m being serious though, I’m not some crazy Jay-Cuff super-fan all foaming at the mouth, flipping through my notebook of drawings I’ve done of Jon side-hugging a unicorn or anything like that. That’d be weird.

I can prove that’s not me: one time I gave Jon a ride to a Starbucks and I didn’t try to kidnap him or anything….

I mean I totally could have. But didn’t.

See, not crazy.

But I digress. As I was saying, I am a fan of Jon and I appreciate his writing at Stuff Christians Like. I’m also consistently...

The Pending Squirrel/Human War Is No Laughing Matter

You may have thought I was joking when I wrote about the human/squirrel conflicts that defined the last decade. But believe me, this is serious.

News broke today that the conflict in Walnut Creek, CA has escalated to such levels that the local government has resorted to unconventional methods for annihilating the squirrel population. According to East Bay News:

There are squirrels everywhere and doing damage, but the people would rather see them plucked from the sky than be poisoned on the ground. Beth...
